Israeli Independence/ Nakba Anniversary Triptych

1. (bottom photo) The police shut down indie musicians who have strung electrical cords out of their living room window for a jam session in the hipster Tel-Aviv neighborhood of Florentin Independence Eve. The neighborhood has been blocked off for a block party, and disgruntled teenage girls in on-off florescent bunny ears are everywhere. (Full disclosure: the hipster musician in the red shirt is my sister.)

2. The war of the Nach-Nach trucks! The two messianic-Bratslaver-Chasid-Trance-Conversion machines approached the intersection of Rothschield Blvd. and Allenby Street and neither would yeild. Many dancing Chasids spilled out! They tried to dance with each other but the trucks' loudspeakers were playing different tunes. (one blared, "Don't be afraid at all!" and the other screamed "after 2,000 years, after 2,000 years.")Then a third truck came into the intersection. Messianic chaos ensued.

3. A graffitti I spotted on a quiet street off the Blvd a few days earlier says: "Meet Fawzi, A refugee ---- 3rd generation; year of birth: 1969; Placa of Birth: Gaza, Palestine; Place of Residence Today: Gaza, Palestine; The Village of Mamil: Its --- remmants --- Arolozorov St. corner of Ibn Gvirol; [a central Tel aviv intersection] THE REFUGEES ARE RETURNING. HAVE YOU HEARD?"

Shh, don't tell...

Shh, don't tell the children that the Independence Day Dwarf doesn't exist! You walk by the Bank Ha-Po'alim ads and are vaguely troubled -- is this the last supporter of Zionism?
